Match Report:

On another cold night at Magdala it was s clash of the mid table with 10th Placed Magic versus 9th placed Dulwich hill. Only one point separated the two teams and with the first round being a nil all draw it was always going to be a tight match.

The first 10 minutes was as expected pretty even. Our defensive back three were strong as always and the midfield were covering a lot of ground and winning a lot of 50/50 tackles and there was good pressure on their defence up front. Our combinations were working well with Adam and Nimmo working well and Jake’s crosses and corners were particularly dangerous. Adrian our emergency keeper from the under 14’s was nice and composed and slotted easily into the team.

Magic were pressuring the Dulwich Hill defence. Our midfield were strong and full of running and while Dulwich Hill pushed the ball around well Magic were never really troubled. The Magdala surface was showing signs of a long season with the ball bobbling around, making it harder for both teams to play a passing game.

Magic created the first real chance of the game with another dangerous ball from Jake into the box which Lawrence got a solid header to but unfortunately it hit the cross bar. More strong pressure from our midfield forced another corner and Evan swung an excellent ball into the box which Lucas then got a good head (or should I say headband) to but unfortunately it was cleared off the line.

The first half finished nil all but Magic were the better side and had created the most amount of chances on goal.

As the temperature dropped another couple of degrees the crowd starting adding beanies, gloves and moodles to keep warm. Miro (distracted by Sam being injured again) wistfully mused about the size of the full moon!

Dulwich Hill started out the stronger team in the second half but we had a couple of excellent runs from Logan and Luke. However after 10mins Dulwich Hill opened the scoring with a good header from a free kick outside the box.

While Magic tried to rally, Dulwich Hill resorted to playing the long ball which slowed the game down and added to the frustration for our boys and unfortunately Logan received a yellow card for a late tackle.

Magic lifted the intensity for the final 15 minutes and the game became more physical as we pressed to get an equalizer. We had one last chance with a good run and cross from Luke but Lawrence couldn’t quite get enough on it.

So a close 1-nil loss was the final score. Our defence was strong, the midfielders did plenty of work and the forwards chased all day.

A special note to Adrian who had a really good game in goals. Not only did he manage a couple of good saves but was brave when it counted.
